Our Funding Priorities

Camp Davis, Early Morning, 2019

Camp Davis:

We are pleased that in summer 2021, thanks to the generous support of donors to the Camp Davis Strategic Fund, we were able to provide unprecedented financial support to students attending camp.  Students were facing financial hardships brought on by expenses associated with virtual learning, pandemic-related job losses, and family hardship, and we're grateful for the extraordinary generosity of all who ensured attending camp did not present an undue burden to students this year.
While the ability for students to attend camp will always be our first priority, our attention also turns to facilities needs, namely the renovation or replacement of the dining hall.  Most of Camp Davis's current dining hall was built 92 years ago and lacks many modern features necessary for feeding dozens of students.  Any upgrades to the facilities necessitate modernization of infrastructure, including fire suppression systems, among others.  Our hope is to move forward with feasibility studies in the current months, with the hopes that continued gifts from our generous supporters will enable us to construct a new dining hall in the years to come.

Earth & Environmental Science Strategic Fund:

Gifts to Earth & Environmental Science Strategic Fund will be used to support groundbreaking research and teaching initiatives that are not funded by traditional channels. Funds could be used for “state-of-the-art” scientific equipment or technology upgrades for research and learning, seed money for faculty proposals for promising research or teaching ideas, post-doctoral training, or other opportunities to support our research and teaching mission. Gifts to the Strategic Fund  will support the Department’s research-related programming and teaching needs.
