Local Classics

Local Classics is a project, facilitated by Contexts for Classics (CFC), which seeks to expand and complicate what it means for Classics to play out in the public spheres closest to us at U-M and in Ann Arbor, in a community setting including but not limited to the academy.

Explore below local histories of Classical studies, ancient language instruction, and ancient play productions compiled by U-M students for Local Classics, and browse archives of the local architecture and monuments influenced by the Greek world.

Do you consider yourself a part of or adjacent to an Ann Arbor or U-M community? Are you interested in engaging further with Local Classics? See our Get Involved page to begin your own research, propose a Local Classics project or event, or submit your own encounters with the Classical at U-M and in Ann Arbor. See also our panel discussion series, “Contexts for Classical Objects.”
