Writing “The People’s Republic of Amnesia: Tiananmen Revisited”

Speaker and Author - Louisa Lim

Louisa Lim will speak about the challenges of conducting a work of investigative journalism under the ever-present gaze of China’s security apparatus.  Louisa Lim is the Howard R. Marsh Visiting Professor of Journalism at the University of Michigan.  She is a former China correspondent for NPR and the BBC.  Her book, The People’s Republic of Amnesia: Tiananmen Revisited was named one of the Economist’s best books of 2014 and was long-listed for the Lionel Gelber Award for the best non-fiction book on foreign affairs in the world.

About the Speaker

Louisa Lim was NPR’s China correspondent when she wrote a book about the most sensitive of all political issues in China: the crackdown following the Tiananmen movement in 1989, when the Chinese army opened fire on civilians, killing hundreds of people.
