As a department with faculty and students from around the globe and with a commitment to learning about the diverse cultures of the ancient world, we want to stress our support of current efforts, including Dean Michael Barr's amicus brief with Harvard University and MIT, to reverse or substantially modify the Department of Homeland Security's restrictions on the educational opportunities of international students. Furthermore, we endorse the letter, signed by our own disciplinary organization (the Society for Classical Studies) and forty other learned societies, to Immigration and Customs Enforcement that highlights the invaluable contribution of international students and faculty to the academic community and calls for the reinstatement of their temporary visa extensions during the COVID-19 pandemic for the next academic year.
