“Brown dwarfs binaries: from statistics to formation and evolution”
Measuring stellar and substellar binary properties provides key insight into formation and evolution mechanisms, and is essential to discriminate between formation scenarios and to predict the fate of binaries. In this talk, I will present results from a campaign compiled to investigate binarity as a function of mass and age for brown dwarfs at the extreme low-mass end of the Initial Mass Function. Based on statistical constraints from dedicated surveys, I will discuss the implications of the observed multiplicity properties for brown dwarf formation and evolution theories.
