Professor Damani Partridge was recently named vice president/president-elect of the German Studies Association. Professor Partridge is an integral part of the GSA, where he serves on its Committee for Institutional Transformation and Social Justice and has organized and conducted several seminars, panels, interviews, and webinars on Holocaust Memory, Coloniality, and Black Lives. In the GSA's newsletter Partridge voiced his plans "to continue to work toward making the GSA into an organization in which a diverse set of members will systematically thrive."
Damani Partridge is a Professor of Anthropology and Afroamerican and African Studies. He is also an affiliate with the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures. His research and work specializes in citizenship, affect, urban space, sexuality, decolonization, post-Cold War “freedom,” Holocaust memorialization, African-American military occupation, Blackness and embodiment, the production of noncitizens, the culture and politics of “fair trade,” and the Obama moment in Berlin.
