Join the Minor in Writing and Peer Writing Consultant Program this Winter!
Sweetland Peer Writing Consultant Program
We’re presently recruiting undergraduates in any discipline to train to be Peer Writing Consultants. Ideal candidates write well, enjoy collaboration, and demonstrate reliable and conscientious behavior. They will also have at least 24 credits (not counting AP credits) by the start of next semester. Multilingual students are encouraged to apply.
There are two ways to enter the Peer Writing Consultant program:
You may be nominated by an instructor who is familiar with your writing and interpersonal skills. Each fall and winter term, Sweetland emails faculty across campus to ask them to nominate students for the program. When you are nominated, you will receive an email from Sweetland, inviting you to apply to the Peer Writing Consultant Program. The application includes writing an essay and submitting an academic writing sample from a University of Michigan course.
2. Apply and instruction letter of recommendation
You may apply to the program by completing the application. The application includes writing an essay and submitting an academic writing sample from a University of Michigan course. As part of your application, you must request a confidential letter of recommendation from an instructor who is familiar with your writing and interpersonal skills. Ask the instructor to send this letter directly to firstname.lastname@example.org.

You might find a screenwriter sitting between a scientist and a musician or Kinesiology, Business, and Communications majors giving each other feedback on their writing.
With a Sweetland Minor in Writing you will earn a credential that certifies your writing expertise to prospective employers and graduate programs. You will also pick up new media skills designing and creating content for your electronic writing portfolios.
