Sydney L. Carr is a PhD Candidate in Political Science and Public Policy. Sydney earned her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Connecticut (2018) and M.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan (2020). Sydney's work is supported by the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, the American Political Science Association Minority Fellowship, the Center for American Women and Politics Research Grant, and the Institute for Social Research Hanes Walton Jr. Fellowship, among others. Broadly, her research interests include American public opinion, race and ethnic politics, gender and politics, news media, and political communication. Sydney's dissertation research examines the extent to which Black women political elites are systemically disadvantaged in the political arena; specifically, her work examines whether news media coverage surrounding Black women political elites differs from that received by their counterpart groups and the extent to which that coverage directly impacts American public opinion.
Beyond the academic realm, Sydney currently serves as the president of SCOR (Students of Color Rackham) at the University of Michigan- an organization dedicated to the well-being and success of graduate students of color enrolled at the university.
