The 2020 Virtual Conference on Mentorship in Higher Education brings together leaders at higher education institutions across the nation to share and present high-impact stories and best practices on developing and implementing mentorship programs.
Due to the rapidly evolving changes in response to COVID-19, this conference will now be happening virtually. The conference will be conducted as follows:
- Participants will be able to watch carefully-crafted and pre-recorded presentations from each insitution on their own time. We ask that you take notes and summarize your findings.
- On July 29, we will all gather virtualy for breakout conversations to discuss our actionable learnings with a time carved out for networking.
As stewards of the mentorship experience, program represenatives like yourself can expect to make meaningful connections with others in a similar capacity and engage in thoughtful discussions about how to scale your mentorship programs at your institutions.
Keynote Speaker: Ayanna McConnell, Senior Director of the Alumni Association at the University of Michigan
No one could have predicted all that has transpired in 2020. As higher education institutions scramble to sustain access and support students on their academic journeys, campus staff are reimagining how to support students as they navigate a myriad of new normals. Mentoring programs have the potential to offer consistent support and resources to students, but can also add to the clutter and noise of their academic journey. Attendees will explore strategic elements of mentoring initiatives that add value and impact. Make sure your program doesn’t survive - ensure it thrives in 2020!

As a member of the executive team at the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan, Ayanna and her team create strategic connections with the university community to strengthen overall alum engagement at U-M while helping current students learn to maximize the Michigan alum network before graduation. Ayanna’s team manages the LEAD Scholars Program and offers alumni a portfolio of volunteer experiences including alum student recruitment. Ayanna’s two-decade career in higher education includes leading U-M’s University Mentorship Program from 2001-2007 and managing orientation and mentorship programs at Eastern Michigan University from 2007-2011. She is a firm believer in the power of mentorship, especially peer mentoring, at every stage in life.

Program representatives can apply through this application. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 20, 2020. The application period will close thereafter. You'll find a detailed brief and instructions on how to prepare your video presentation such as the length of the presentation and content that must be included.
