About
What is your advising philosophy? I advise with the knowledge that every student I meet is unique and is coming to me with their own experiences. I never want a student to feel like I’m just there to check off some boxes and get them out of my office. Students want to feel heard, and I enjoy building that rapport with the students that I serve. I support my students throughout their academic and professional journey, while providing them with resources to help them be successful. My goal is to keep students motivated, while helping them feel empowered to make their own decisions.
What was your path to Newnan? I worked as a peer academic advisor while I was an undergraduate student and that is how I fell into student affairs. I graduated with my Master's degree in higher education/student affairs from Eastern Michigan University in April 2021. My first professional role in student affairs was at the University of Michigan-Flint, where I worked as an academic advisor. I primarily met with education students. I also worked as a career coach at Eastern before finding my landing place here in Newnan.
Why did you join Newnan? When I was still in my graduate program, I met with a couple advisors in Newnan to conduct informational interviews. I had the most positive experience and everyone was so kind, helpful, and truly wanted to see me succeed. Since then, it has been my goal to work in LSA within Newnan. It feels like a real full circle moment!
Class you loved and why? I really enjoyed EDLD 638-Assessment and Program Evaluation in Higher Education. It was a challenging class, but I learned a lot. It was eye opening to see the importance of evaluating programs in higher education and assess their impacts. I had to think about things from a whole new perspective. I went into this class with low expectations of enjoying it, and although it was hard at times, this class is what got me interested in assessment in higher education and wanting to learn more!
Interests and hobbies: I am very active and I am an avid runner and do CrossFit everyday. I enjoy long distance running, so I like to do half and full marathons. Outside of that, I love reading, trying new coffee places, listening to music, and true crime podcasts. My wife and I are both vegan, so we love trying all of the vegan food Ann Arbor has to offer. I'm also a huge Swiftie, so I love anything Taylor Swift.
