Dual Enrollment with Another College or University

If you are interested in taking a class or classes at another college or university during the same term you are also enrolled at U-M be sure to review and verify the information below:

  • If you wish to have a course count towards a major or minor, ensure you are in communication with your academic department to make sure this course fulfills major or minor requirements.
  • If you wish to have a course count toward an LSA Distribution requirement, ensure you are in communication with your LSA General Academic Advisor in the Newnan Academic Advising Center (or CSP, the RC, or Honors if you are a student in one of those programs) to make sure the course fulfills the requirements.
  • Evaluate the workload of the courses in which you wish to enroll. Does this slate of courses set you up for success? Consider time management, workload, and competing priorities.
  • At least 60 of the 120 credits required for a degree must be earned in residence
  • At least 30 of the last 60 credits for the degree must be earned in residence.
  • You cannot satisfy the Language Requirement by electing out-of-residence credit after you have begun degree enrollment in LSA. Language departments rarely grant exceptions to this policy.  Students pursuing an exception to this policy must first receive approval from the language department before electing an out-of-residence language course.

If you are able to confirm all of the items above, you should move forward with dual enrollment course registration. An official transcript of the completed transfer work must be sent directly from the institution; the school should submit it electronically by email to transcripts@umich.edu. If that is not possible, the school should mail it to:
