Slavic department lecturers Ewa Malachowska-Pasek and Marija Rosic participated in the 2018 American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages (AATSEEL) Conference in Washington, DC, February 1-4, 2018. Both were part of the "Teaching the Less Commonly Taught Slavic and East European Languages" session on Friday, February 2.

Pasek's presentation was "Do They Really Think this Way?! Dealing with Different Cultural Values in the Foreign Language Classroom." She discussed how to successfully introduce topics which may be culturally challenging to an American student audience. Her abstract can be read here.

Rosic's presentation was "Teaching the Balkan Culture in B/C/S Classes." She discussed how teaching traditional Balkan culture in her language class makes communication easier for students. Her abstract can be read here.
