Fellowships & Grants

The International Institute provides generous support to faculty who wish to make a contribution to internationalizing the educational environment for students through international programs, research and teaching abroad, as well as funding for events that relate to area studies or international issues. International Institute provides resources that help faculty enrich the educational environment for students. The II also serves as a connecting point for faculty to network with other scholars on campus and at partnering institutions worldwide.

Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program

Deadline: September 15, 2020
The Fulbright Scholar Program sends approximately 470 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year. These prestigious grants provide funding for recipients to lecture or conduct research abroad for periods of two to 12 months in over 125 countries. 

II Support for Events

  • II Fund for Conferences and Workshops
    The International Institute contributes to the support of conferences and workshops that make substantial contributions to international learning on the University of Michigan campus and in the Ann Arbor community.These funds are also available to undergraduate student groups. Groups wishing to apply must have a faculty sponsor who will fill out the application and vouch for the event.
  • II Fund for Performances, Films, and Exhibitions
    The International Institute Fund for Performances, Films, and Exhibitions provides support for performances, films and related programs, exhibitions, etc. that make substantial contributions to international learning on the U-M campus and beyond.  These funds are also available to undergraduate student groups. Groups wishing to apply must have a faculty sponsor who will fill out the application and vouch for the event. 

II Enterprise Fund (IIEF)

Not currently accepting applications
The Enterprise Fund is designed to fund projects that spur intellectual and academic innovation, address topics of global importance, and create conversations and collaborations across the area studies community.
