2 weeks in Washington, D.C: Explore the diverse neighborhoods and local NGOs of DC; meet with community leaders, activists, and government officials; and begin to develop your own toolbox for effecting change by learning from the successes and failures of others.
4 weeks in Delhi, India: Examine the mental and physical health challenges faced by farmers, sexual minorities, and the urban poor and consider how infectious diseases like HIV and malaria and a lack of access to clean water and food compound these challenges. Examine how a nation addresses the double burden of its infectious disease epidemics and burgeoning chronic disease prevalence as its population both grows and ages.
5 weeks Cape Town, South Africa: Hear from and interact with community activists, physicians, public health practitioners, and officials as they seek to understand how and why HIV/AIDS and TB epidemics have ravaged communities in South Africa. Farmland, fishing rights, pesticides, and water access will be the environmental focus of the program and learn about domestic and political violence in the context of the country’s social relations.
5 weeks in Amman, Jordan: Learn about a world-renowned healthcare system in a country surrounded by political turmoil. Your studies will focus on healthcare services in urban, rural and refugee settings and will examine the impact of COVID-19 on the healthcare system.
