Students will focus on North African and Islamic Studies as they also delve into Moroccan culture. They will learn Modern Standard Arabic with courses at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels, and will learn Colloquial Moroccan Arabic to communicate with locals.
Semester/Academic Year: On-site staff plan extensive social and cultural events to help students integrate into life in Rabat. Excursions to Fez, Volubilis, and the Sahara Desert are included in the program fee. Students will have an opportunity to intern in a Moroccan organization/ university, in which they will conduct field work, interview Moroccan executives/employees/volunteers/professors/ students, and share hands-on experiences in class. This program will enhance their sense of social responsibility, field-work skills, and intercultural communication competence. If students have already taken advanced French, they may enroll in French-taught area studies courses at the study center or at local universities. Students with a high enough level of Arabic may take Arabic-taught courses at local universities.
Summer: Students enroll in a 6-credit Modern Standard Arabic and Colloquial Moroccan Arabic class. Students also have the opportunity to travel around Morocco on course-related excursions. Possible program trip locations include Tangiers and Chefchaouen. There is not an internship available for the summer.
